About Sandy and Lee...

Vernier Originals & Island Woodcrafts - that’s what these two Kelleys Island retirees call their newly named island entertainment. Artist Sandra Vernier Tkach of Kelleys Island Ohio has spent many years teaching and painting since her formal training at the Cleveland Institute of Art. In her retirement she loves to paint and take lots of seasonal photos of Kelleys Island.

During her senior year at Elyria High School, Sandra won, Best of Show, at the Elyria Business Woman’s Art Show in the Park. Her portfolio got her in to the Cleveland Institute of Art. After many art shows and years teaching art she has chosen to retire to Kelleys Island with her husband Lee.

Together they keep very busy pursuing their interest. Sandra loves to paint and take photos of the Island. In the winter months Lee has time to work in his woodwork shop. He makes frames for her work. He has said that he wanted only her originals hanging in their home.

Lee also has a collection of Clocks made of Eastern Red-cedar. A favorite native wood that he processes in to boards for a verity of interesting projects. They both have their work in the Island Fudge Shop on Kelleys Island. Lee and Sandra work part time in the summer at the Kelleys Island State Park. Lee is in maintenance and Sandra is the park naturalist.
