Kelleys Island January Bird Census
Saturday, January 20, 2001

Brian Barchus and Tom Bartlett flew over to do the monthly census on Kelleys Island on Saturday, January 20, 2001. They were met by Sandy Tkach who drove them around the route.  Cold northwest wind with temps around 20 made walking tough. Bird numbers were down from December but species were good. They finished the count with 40 species on the island. Eastern Screech-Owls were unusually responsive that day. Ice was breaking up and moving along the south and east sides.
