Kelleys Island April Bird Census
Saturday, April 21, 2001
.

Conducted the monthly census in between rain showers and high winds. We observed 73 species.  Participants included: Tom Bartlett, Brian Barchus, Pat Hayes, Delores Cole, Paula Lozano, Bob Finkelstein, Tom Behlen, Lloyd and Angela Burns.

Hawks were moving over the island in the afternoon. We had Osprey, Red-shouldered, Broad-wings, Sharp-shins, Cooper's, and Turkey Vultures make a bee line over the island between 1:00 PM and 4:00 PM after the count period.  Apparently they don't understand that raptors don't migrate over water.  By Tom Bartlett
