The monthly census for Kelleys Island was conducted on Monday, October 22. Participants included Tom Bartlett, Dave Dariano, Pat Hayes, and Sandy Tkach. Weather was clear to partly cloudy, winds S-SE 5-12 mph, and
temperature from 58 to low 70's.

The October census recorded 56 species and 4136 individuals. Both of these numbers are below average for the ten years. The October average number of species observed is 58 and total number of individuals is 5271.

Several days of southerly winds before this count probably helped to reduce the number of species and individuals. Three species were added to the list of species observed on an October census. Those were Mute Swan, Blue-gray
Gnatcatcher, and Lincoln's Sparrow. The ten year list for October sightings is 113 species. Noticeably absent was Great Black-backed Gull which has been missed the last two October counts.
