November Bird Census
Saturday, November 17, 2001
The regular monthly census was run on Saturday,
November 17, 23001 from 7:30 am to 12:30 pm. Ten individuals participated in our most mild November census to date. We even found a
male Lake Erie Water Snake along the North Pond trail. We totaled
61 species. Five finch species are of note but the lack of numbers of some of
the regular wintering birds like Golden-crowned Kinglet and Hermit Thrush
is interesting. Also note the 22 Carolina Wrens recorded. They are all
over the island. We found more in areas not covered by the census route.
Also of note were 5 Eastern Screech-Owl, 2 Great Horned Owls, 1 Long-eared
Owl, and 1 Saw-whet Owl recorded on evening census runs Friday and
Saturday.
